Review: ABCs of Mathematics

ABCs of Mathematics ABCs of Mathematics by Chris Ferrie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book. It is bright and colorful and good way to introduce math terminology into vocabulary for young babies and children. I love the idea of using these books to just introduce the vocabulary used in different subjects. Reading this little board book I learned some great concepts too. I reveived a free copy of this from NetGalley in exchange for a review.

It has experiments and information on The natural world, human body, chemistry, earth, physics, and space. I loved the format of this book and they types of experiments and activities it has for kids to do. It really makes science relevent to the world around kids and helps them think of themselves as sceintists. I would highly recommend this book for elementary and middle school students. Review: Devil in Spring

Devil in Spring Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Out of the three books in the series this one is my favorite!! I am a huge fan of Devil in Winter which is part of her Wallflowers series, so I am a bit biased. This book is about their son and Pandora Ravenel. I loved everything about this book. The heroine is quirky and different and so loveable. I also loved how accepting and likabe Gabriel was. She really captured what a child of Sebastian and Evie might be like. I really hope to see more books revovling around this family!!

Review: Science Comics: Dinosaurs: Fossils and Feathers

Science Comics: Dinosaurs: Fossils and Feathers Science Comics: Dinosaurs: Fossils and Feathers by M.K. Reed
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am a big fan of the Science Comics series. I think it is a great way to get informational text into the hands of kids. I really liked the Dinosaur addition to this series. I did think it was a bit confusing becauce of the amount of informatin. I wish they had included a time line with all the people they bring up. I loved the illistrations and the information presented. I learned a lot about who found specific dinos and their work. Great book for upper elementary and middle grades.

It works so well. I liked the main characters in the book. Devon develops through the book and becomes very likable. I also like how different some of the characters in this book are. Can't wait for the other books in the series.

Review: Marrying Winterborne

Marrying Winterborne Marrying Winterborne by Lisa Kleypas
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoye this book. I loved the main characters and the struggles they are trying to overcome. I liked that you got a feel for them in the previous book in the series. You can read it on its own, but reading the series in order helps with the character development. One of my favorite thing about Lisa Kleypas's books is that she starts out her books with a punch.

Hurricane Irma Prep

As we were preparing for Hurricane Irma to come to Florida we did the usual hurricane prep. We removed stuff by windows, stocked up on food and water, cleared our patio. I also made sure we were stocked with books. I went and downloaded some digital books onto my Nook and Ipad. I also made sure I had some physical books to read. Now I have a large TBR so little prep was needed, but I till took inventory of my reading materials and options. I also made sure my husband had downloaded an extra audiobook or two. Thursday during school I also made sure the kids had books to read over the long weekend. Kids got to take as many as thy wanted to make sure they had enough to read. Today as we sit and wait for Hurricane Irma to come through Central Florida I am catching up on my Net Galley reviews and some of the books I have put on hold. So in the Pena household lots of reading is being done as we pray for those in our state as we wait and see what we need to deal with.

Review: Boston Monsters: A Search-And-Find Book

Boston Monsters: A Search-And-Find Book Boston Monsters: A Search-And-Find Book by Carine Laforest
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was adorable. Each page is a different location in Boston and you have to find little monsters hidden in the picture. I thought the concept of showing parts of Boston and describing the location plus the monster search was great. I would have liked to see more historical tidbits in the book. But this would be a great book for kid if you are traveling to Boston to have. I can't wait to buy a copy for my daughter. I recieved a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for a review.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was an interesting graphic novel about robts and drones. I really like this series for kids. It has a lot of great information and the art is pretty good. This wasn't my favorite of the series, but if you have a kid interested in technology this may be a good fit for them. I recieved a free copy this book from Net Galley in exchange for a review. This title is scheduled to be released at the end of March.

Review: Once a Rebel

Once a Rebel Once a Rebel by Mary Jo Putney
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a very enjoyable read. Gordon is hired to rescue a widow in America during the War of 1812. When he locates the widow he discovers it is his childhood friend. I thought how Putney weaved her story around two historical battles was very interesting. I did think the end was a bit drawn out and dragged when they got to England. I do love her writing style and how she tells stories. I really did enjoy this book and can't wait to read the 3rd one. I recieved a free copy of this book in exchange for a review from Net Galley.
