Disrupting Thinking: Why How We Read Matters by Robert Probst
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I loved this book. I thought it was a great professional read. It also gives some great points on how we teach reading and how students are interacting with texts. I got a lot of great ideas from this book. This was just the book I needed to read this summer.

Reading to your baby
I love reading to my baby and have been since she was first born. Now I don't always read to her every night. It sometimes goes in waves right now until we get a better schedule togther. I prefer to read to her during the day. So sometimes in the morning or afternoon I will read her a couple books.
What I have also started to do is let her play with the books. I let her turn pages and enjoy the book. I think this is also an important thing to do. I go in knowing she will chew on the books so I ake sure the books in her read are safe and are approriate for a 6 month old to attempt to eat. I get a lot of joy ut of sharing my love of books with Penelope and seeing her start to take an interest in them.
So don't beat yourself up and do as much as you can. It is just like any reader, if you skip a day it is fine. I sometimes read a bunch of books in one sitting and sometimes we do one. It depends on your baby and the time you have.
Review: The Sad, Sad Monster
The Sad, Sad Monster by Dolores Costello
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This was a very cute book. This would be a great book for elementary school teachers to read to young children. The illistrations are well done and it has a great message. I recieved a copy of this book on Book Galley to review.

Review: To Beguile a Beast
To Beguile a Beast by Elizabeth Hoyt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I loved this book so much. The characters were great and I loved the plot. Retelling of Beauty and the Beast are some of my favorite romances because it really allows them to create rich characters. The backstory is usually very interesting and I find the struggles add to the character development and believability of the plot.

Review: War Cry
War Cry by Mark Powers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Since I am having major Dresden withdrawl I finally decided to pick up the graphic novels. I love the series and hoped these stood up to the quality I am used to . I do I have to say that I was not dissappointed. This graphic novel was amazing. I loved the artwork and the story. It was a fast paced and added some interesting side stories to the characters we know and love.

This was a cute book. I loved the illustrations in it. My favorite part is the explanation in the back on who wrote what piece. It is a great introduction to poetry for children.
I recieved a copy of this book for review from Book Galley.

Summer Reading so far
I have actually read a suprising amount so far this summer. I thought it might be harder with a 6 month old baby. While I have to read around her schedule I am getting a good amount of reading done so far. To start the summer off I read The Girl Who Drank The Moon by Kelly Barnhill. It was on the current Sunshine State reading list. I loved everything about this book. I am not a hige fan of fantasy books but this one was very engaging and the worl building was great. I enjoyed the characters and the journey this novel takes you on. This is a great middle grades book. The next book I finished was When Beauty Tamed the Beast by Eloisa James. I enjoyed this historical romance a lot. What I like about Beauty and the Beast retellings in historical fiction is it tends to add more demention to the characters, especially the male characters. I enjoyed the characters and the plot. The next book I finshed Beowulf: The Original Graphic Novel.I am a huge fan of Beowulf and was very excited to start this graphic novel. In truth it felt like a watered down version of the tale. The illastrations also left much to be desired. This book fell far from my expectations and was a disappointment. The 4th book I read was To Beguile a Beast by Elizabeth Hoyt. This historical romance was amazing. I loved the characters and the plot. The characters have depth and their interactions are very enjoyable. So that is my summer reading so far. My goal is to finish more of teh Sunshine State books, a few romances I took out of the library, and a couple of teaching books I plan to read this summer.
