Book Tube and my digital TBR

I have been watching a lot of Book Tube/ You Tube bookish posts. I have been getting a lot of great book ideas. I love the videos on books. I also have a book haul post to or two to put up on recent books I have bought. Most are young adult books since I bought them for my classroom. I do enjoy reading young adult as well. I also bought some ebooks I want to talk about. So let me start with my digital TBR: 1. Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. For this book I have downloaded the sample and am trying to decide if I want to buy a hard copy or just download it for my ereader. 2. Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer. This is the first book in a dystopian trilogy. I heard some good things about this series from Book Riot and it was not very expensive on my Nook so I picked it up. 3. Belzhar by Meg Wolitzer. I pre-ordered this book. It is ready to be downloaded on my Nook once it is available on September 30th. I had been hearing so much about this book all over the place, I had to read it. 4. The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton. It was on sale and I had been eyeing this book for a bit. It sounded really interesting and for $6 on my Nook I could not pass that up. 5. Vision in Silver by Anne Bishop. I also pre-ordered this book, which does not come out till March. I loved the first two books in this series. Written in Red and Murder of Crows. I read both and have listened to them on audio books. I love them so much and can not wait for this one to come out.

Kiss of Broken Glass by Madeleine Kuderick

Book Review: Kiss of Broken Glass by Madeleine Kuderick I am always interested in books that are written in verse. Poetry books are one of my favorite genres, whether they are a collection of verse or a novel written in verse. So when I first heard about this book I was very excited to pick it up. This is the story of Kenna, who is a girl addicted to cutting. The poems start right after she is caught cutting herself at school and her 72 hours in a psych ward after being Baker Acted. She tells us about the other kids that are in there and why some of them are there. I greatly enjoyed this book. It is a good look at the thought process someone would go through. How she see the world and how she comes to terms with her problem. This book is beautifully crafted and very engaging. I think is important to bring up the issue of self harm in fiction so students have access to what to look for and how to get help if they need it. I think kids need to be aware of what is going on and this is an issue that we are dealing with in schools. I hope that Madeleine Kuderick writes a follow up book to this one. I would love to see how Kenna deals with her addiction once she gets home and is dealing with everyday life again. The other kids in this book also felt real and interesting. I can't wait to see what else comes from this author.

Worlds Afire by Paul B. Janeczko

I had never heard of the 1944 Ringling Bros. and Barnum disaster. This book is written in blank verse and from different people's points of view. Each poem gives the perspective of someone who was at the disaster. It starts with their point of view before, during, and after the fire. It was interesting to see the various point of views and how they may have seen the situation and how the event may have been seen from their point of view. This was a very well done book and one of my favorite books written in verse.
